The Perfect Global Storm Causes Chip Crises Affecting Atlanta Businesses
If you didn’t know better, you would likely think we were experiencing Armageddon with all the unexpecting disasters in the last year. First a global pandemic, followed by high unemployment, hurricanes, wildfires, rain/flooding, tornadoes, droughts, riots, gasoline shortages, meat shortages, and more. In fact, just as you think enough is enough, a new wave hits. Including a chip crisis in the computer manufacturing market.
Unfortunately, there were several things that led to the semiconductor shortage. For example, at the beginning of the pandemic, semi-conductor manufacturers suffered labor shortages and their chip inventory dried up. At the same time, the demand for electronics amid remote workers and distant learning. In addition, automakers underestimated the demand in the second quarter and had to make up for their mistake. Finally, Covid 19 vials are made out of the same material as the chips which is considered a priority worldwide. The result? A perfect storm in the supply chain for the computer manufacturing market.
INSI Warns PC Shortages Require Planned Purchases
Dell, HP, and Lenova have all announced the unexpected semiconductor shortages, coupled with high demands, are inflating prices in the computer manufacturing industry. Fortunately, they expect prices to drop significantly and level out in 2022.
Consequently, INSI encourages Atlanta clients to review their computer rotation plan and aged computers for 2021. Then, consider holding off purchases until next year unless it causes it to go out of warranty. If you do have to replace or purchase equipment, we advise to purchase now before computer prices inflates even more.
