Week 4: Cybersecurity First
October 25 – 29th is week four of Cybersecurity Awareness Month that covers Cybersecurity First. Simply put, cybersecurity is the practice of protecting data from cyber-attacks, including information disclosure, theft of or damage to hardware/ software, or disruption of the services in your Marietta and Atlanta GA-based business.
The purpose of Cybersecurity First week is to remind us that cybersecurity should not be an afterthought, but instead, it should be the first thing we consider when we:
- Connect to the Internet – Anytime you connect to the Internet, you put your data at risk, whether on your computer, digital device, or cell phone.
- Set up a New Device – Make sure you take advantage of all the security settings and install antivirus software when you set up a new system or onboard a new employee.
- Terminate Employees – Don’t forget to terminate employees’ credentials on the network if they resign or are fired.
Connect Remotely – Ensure your employees have a secure VPN connection when working from home or traveling.
Contract with a Vendor – Supply chain cybersecurity is a growing concern for vendors who access, store, or transmit company data.
