Extended Detection Response (XDR) Cybersecurity Program

If you think cyber-attacks have been overwhelming in the past, “oh boy, you ain’t seen nothing yet!” The enormity of the cybercrime to date will be overshadowed by what’s to come. For example, cybersecurity will surpass $8 trillion United States Dollars (USD) (Source: Cybersecurity Venters) by the end of 2023. That’s bigger than the third-largest economy in the world, Japan.

Why Get XDR Cybersecurity Program?

XDR is a game changer for companies seeking more protection. Extended detection response, often abbreviated as XDR, is a software-as-a-service (SaaS) that combines artificial intelligence, machine learning, and experienced oversight to identify and terminate malicious software before it can execute. It has three major benefits; prevention, detection, and remediation across a wide range of products, including organization’s endpoints, servers, cloud applications, and email in multi-cloud and hybrid environments.

XDR Cybersecurity Program Compared to SIEM and SOAR

XDR is the next evolution for End Point Detection (EPD.) It’s a turnkey solution integrating multiple source endpoint to detect more threats, respond efficiently and decrease false alerts.

But how do you compare it to SIEM or SOAR? Gartner has provided similar definitions for SIEM (Security Information and Event Management), SOAR (Security Orchestration and Automation and Response), and XDR, as described below in quotes:

  1. SIEM – “A support for threat detection, compliance, and security incident management through the collection and analysis of security events, as well as a wide variety of other event and contextual data sources.” The downfall of this technology is that the volume of security alerts overwhelms the security teams monitoring it.
  2. SOAR – “Enables organizations to collect inputs monitored by the security operations team on the latest attack signatures and phishing scams.” SOAR integrates with other security tools and can customize alert and response measures. However, they require expertise in add-ons and plugin configuration and tuning.
  3. XDR – “A unified security incident detection and response platform that automatically collects and correlates from multiple proprietary and security components.” It centralizes investigative tools, behavioral analytics, and remediation automation into a single platform. However, XDR does not have the log management, retention, or compliance capabilities that SIEM does.

All three cybersecurity programs have their pros and cons, so it is best to consult with a cybersecurity expert to find the right solutions for your Atlanta business network environment.
